This pattern depicts a Wampum Belt, specifically, the Haiwatha Belt. It is the national belt of the Haudenosauee. It is a Free PDF downloadable quilt pattern. Colouring page is included.
The Belt represents a treaty of peace between five nations: Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk. Each symbol represents one nation, from West to East.
This pattern was designed as an extension of a quilt request from a friend, Jenna Barnhardt, many years ago. Jenna is Mohawk, and has always been open to discussing topics not taught in school. I want to provide this pattern to use as a celebration of culture.
